Small-town Illinois girl. Colorado transplant. Brand writer, copywriter, and former corporate escapee who quit her job at 30, joined the Peace Corps, hitchhiked through the Middle East, and came back with a very different idea of what a career could look like.
I've been running The Boot Factor since 2002 — a storytelling and brand messaging agency that's helped everyone from Chipotle and Honeywell to solo coaches and scrappy startups find their real voice online. I absolutely LOVE mining humans for their magic and turning it into web copy, email campaigns, LinkedIn profiles, one-sheets, and the kind of brand messaging that makes people say "Wait, how did you do that? You don't even know me that well!"
Part of the answer is that I'm inherently curious — the kind of curious that actually listens to every line of a song, not just the chorus. I help people feel seen, valued, and understood before I write a single word for them. It's less a technique than a disposition: I genuinely want to know what makes someone tick, what they're afraid to say out loud, and what they'd most want their audience to feel. That depth is what shows up on the page.
That instinct carried over into Permission to Be Human, a podcast I co-hosted and produced for four years, six seasons, and 130 episodes. I wrote every script, managed the guest pipeline, ran the editorial calendar, and grew a loyal listener community through newsletters and live events. It was the most sustained creative project of my life — and proof that I can build something from nothing and keep it alive.
B.S. in Advertising. Rotary Ambassador. Peace Corps volunteer. Blogger in Beirut. Bit-part actress in a few very forgettable SyFy channel movies. I've written for Modern Bride, 5280, and Elephant Journal. I've lived in New York, London, Bulgaria, and Costa Rica. Every experience added another layer to how I read people — and how I write for them.
Good copy doesn't happen at a desk. It happens in the conversation before the desk — in the listening, the digging, the finding of the thing someone didn't know they were trying to say.
